BMW M1 (1978-81) O ne of the most inspiring and exciting BMWs ever produced, the M1 was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and became the first mid-engine BMW to be mass produced. The car was hand built by BMW Motorsport as a homologation special for sports car racing. The M1 was powered by a twin-cam six-cylinder engine with a Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection.
